Artillery attack on a hospital in northern Syria left 15 dead and 50 injured

Medical officials say the death toll from an artillery strike on a hospital in northern Syria has risen to at least 15 .

The shelling, a day earlier, caused widespread destruction and knocked out the hospital’s maternity ward and surgery unit.

The first attack struck a residential area, while the second hit a hospital shortly afterwards, civil defence sources said.

Video footage on social media showed casualties amid the ruins of the Al Shifa hospital.

Turkey’s Anadolu agency also put the number of those killed at 15 and said 50 were injured.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack that also wounded 50 and came from areas where both government troops and Kurdish-led fighters are deployed.
