#Crime,#Chronicles : Suspect captured in ‘ambush-style’ killings of 2 cops !

An Iowa man with a history of run-ins with police was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly gunned down two cops sitting in their patrol cars in separate “ambush-style” attacks, officials said.

Scott Michael Greene, 46, of Urbandale, Iowa, allegedly killed Des Moines police Sgt. Anthony Beminio and Urbandale Officer Justin Martin in brazen attacks about a half-hour and a couple of miles apart, officials said.

He surrendered without a struggle to a Department of Natural Resources officer in Dallas County about two hours after he was named as the suspect in the shootings, the Des Moines Register reported.

Greene was transported to a Des Moines hospital with an unknown injury, the paper reported.

Police said a “series of leads and investigative tips” led them to identify Greene as a suspect.

Greene, who is white, was collared about eight hours after the killings, the latest in a spate of attacks against law enforcement across the US in recent months. The two slain officers also were white, Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek said.

The first cops who responded to reports of gunfire found Martin mortally wounded about midnight EST in the affluent suburb of the Iowa capital, Parizek said.
Beminio was killed in Des Moines two miles away and about 30 minutes later as he was responding to the first shooting, the paper reported.

“It doesn’t look like there was any interaction between these officers and whoever the coward is who shot them while they sat in their cars,” Parizek said, KCCI TV in Des Moines reported.

Authorities declined to comment on a motive for the killings.

“I think you know that oftentimes in these investigations we don’t figure out what the motive is until we get done and then there’s times we can’t make sense of what their motive is — or they don’t even share that with us,” Parizek said, AFP reported.

A police cruiser at the site of the Des Moines shooting was riddled with three bullet holes, a witness told Reuters.

Greene has had numerous run-ins with the law and a rap sheet that includes arrests for harassment, assault and criminal mischief. Some of the charges were dismissed.

On Oct. 14, a YouTube user with his name got in a confrontation with police after he was ejected from a football game at Urbandale High School, where he waved a Confederate flag near a group of African-Americans while the national anthem was being played, Urbandale Police Chief Ross McCarty told Reuters.

Dena Soenke, an Urbandale schools spokeswoman, confirmed that Greene was involved in an incident at a recent high school football but referred questions about the incident to police. Parizek said he could not comment on the video.
