Shooting death in West Ridge neighborhood

Two men were killed and four others have been wounded since Thursday
afternoon in separate shootings, police said.

The fatal shooting happened in the city's West Ridge neighborhood, police

About 1:20 p.m. in the 2200 block of West Thome Avenue, a green Plymouth
minivan pulled up and someone inside fired several shots at a 23-year-old man
who standing outside, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was identified as Jontaye Walker, of the 6200 block of North Bell
Avenue. He was pronounced dead at 1:29 p.m., according to the Cook County
medical examiner's office.

Witnesses said eight shots, loud and booming as if they were from a
semi-automatic weapon, were heard.

The man laid sprawled out on his back on the southeast corner of Bell and
Thome on a lawn in front of a building where he was apparently fatally shot

There appeared to be blood on the man’s face, and his baseball cap was still
secured on his head. Paramedics and firefighters rolled him in a blue blanket
and removed his body in a Fire Department ambulance.

Neighbors reported seeing a dark SUV speeding away soon after the gunfire. A
woman in a nearby building collapsed in the vestibule in grief as she was
interviewed by Chicago police. 

The victim, who was struck multiple times in the head and body, was
pronounced dead at the scene, Zala said.

At 1:20 a.m. Friday, a 31-year-old man was fatally shot in Grand Crossing,
police said.

He was in the 7800 block of South Maryland Avenue on his way back from a
Thanksgiving celebration when someone came out of an SUV and shot him multiple
times at close range, authorities said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition and later
pronounced dead, according to police. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office
identified him as Christopher Williams of the 800 block of East 78th Street.

About 3:15 a.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the South Loop, said Officer
Ron Gaines, a Chicago police spokesman.

He was in the 2100 block of South Wabash Avenue when he was shot in the
chest, Gaines said. He went to Rush University Medical Center and later was
transferred to Stroger Hospital His condition has been stabilized.

He had been in an argument with someone at a nightclub, and as he walked out
of the club, he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot. Police did not know
whether the shooting was related to the fight.

About 2:40 a.m., a 45-year-old man was shot in the 3400 block of South
California Avenue, Gaines said. He was shot in the back of the head and taken to
Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Another man was shot about 2:35 p.m. in the 13400 block of South Avenue O in
the city's Hegewisch neighborhood, Zala said. 

A 27-year-old man suffered a wound to the right leg, and was taken to
Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. His condition was stabilized at the
hospital, Zala said.

A man was shot about 3:15 p.m. in the 5000 block of South Forrestville Avenue
in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood, Zala said.

A 19-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to
Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
