A 15-year-old Regina boy has been charged with second-degree murder in the Oct. 22 death of Matthew Wells, the city's eighth homicide.
Teen also accused of arson, recklessly firing a gun on same night as homicide in Cathedral area
The teen has also been charged with firing a gun, causing property damage, arson and theft on the same night in the city's Cathedral neighbourhood.Wells was 48 when he died.
At 3:35 a.m. CST on Oct. 22, police were called to a house on the 1500 block of Robinson Street, where they found Wells. He was declared dead at the scene.
Shortly after, at approximately 3:40 a.m., police officers were called to an
apartment on the 2200 block of Robinson Street, where a gun had apparently been
fired into the balcony doors, which were shattered. No one in the apartment was
injured.
The boy, who cannot be named due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with second-degree murder, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, two breaches of firearm prohibition and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner, among other charges.
He is scheduled to make his first appearance in youth court on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
