2 dead, 9 wounded in West, North, South Side shootings.

Two men killed and at least nine others were wounded in West, North and South
Side shootings Tuesday, Chicago police said.

The latest fatality occured at 6:15 p.m. on the 5600 block of South Artesian
Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood at 6:15 p.m., police said. 

A 24-year-old man was standing outside when two male attackers walked up to
him, fired shots and ran away, police said. 

The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken in critical condition
to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. 

No one was in custody as a result of the shooting, and no other information
was immediately available. 

Another 24-year-old man was fatally shot about 1 p.m. near 15th Street and
Spaulding Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, according to authorities. He was
pronounced dead not long after the shooting. 

He was in an argument with a man outside when the man pulled a gun and
started shooting, police said. No one is in custody, and area detectives are

Most recently, a 27-year-old man was wounded in a shooting around 8:55 p.m.
in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side, said Chicago Police
Department spokesman Hector Alfaro.

The man was standing in an alley in the 1500 block of West Jonquil Terrace,
talking to a group of people, when a shooter approached him and fired shots,
striking him in the ankle, Alfaro said.

The man was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Ten minutes earlier, at 8:45 p.m., a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy
were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood on the Far
South Side, Alfaro said. 

The 20-year-old man was sitting in a rear seat of a parked Jeep in the 9600
block of South Brennan Avenue when someone inside a passing Chevrolet Impala
fired shots, Alfaro said.

The man was struck in the thigh, and the driver of the Jeep he was in tried
to flee gunfire but struck a tree, Alfaro said.

The wounded man then walked to 9700 block of South Van Vlissingen Road from
where an ambulance took him to Advocate Christ Medical Center. His condition
stabilized at the hospital, Alfaro said.

The 16-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk in the 9600 block of South
Brennan Avenue when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck in the back and
left hip, Alfaro said. 

The boy's mother took him to Advocate Trinity Hospital at first. He later
ended up at Comer Children's Hospital and was transferred from there to Stroger
Hospital for treatment. His condition stabilized, Alfaro said.  

Around 7:50 p.m., a 34-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery on the
1200 block of West 96th Street in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the Far
South Side, police said. 

The man was shot in the right shoulder and buttocks and was taken to Advocate
Christ Medical Center where his condition had stabilized, said Officer Veejay
Zala, a police spokesman.

At 5:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the 8600 block of South Exchange
Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood, Zala said. The man was shot in the
buttocks and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition
had stabilized.

A few minutes earlier at 5:08 p.m., a 22-year-old man and a female, whose age
was not immediately available, were shot on the 700 block of East 62nd Street in
the Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. The female suffered a graze wound to her
head and was taken in serious condition to the University of Chicago hospital,
police said.

The 22-year-old man was shot in the left hand and was taken to the University
of Chicago hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said. 

An earlier shooting that left two wounded happened at 11 a.m. in the 3900
block of West Madison Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, said
Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the upper left chest and was taken to Mount
Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A 16-year-old girl who was with him
was grazed on her upper right arm, Sedevic said.

According to preliminary information, the two were on the street when two 
male offenders walked up to the 18-year-old, began firing, then fled on foot,
police said. The girl was not the intended target.
